Fearless

Fearless. Fearless is not the absence of fear. It's not being completely unafraid. Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. Fearless is falling madly in love again even though you've been hurt before. It's fearless to have faith that someday things will change. Fearless is having the courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even though you love them. Fearless is living in the spite of those things that scare you to death. Fearless.

Taylor Swift's headlining world tour, Fearless came to Toronto on Saturday May 22nd. My parents gave me four tickets on Christmas and I was counting down the days. We walked into the ACC a good hour before Taylor was set to come on, and already fans were chanting her name. While waiting for her to appear, we had a very entertaining couple sitting in the row in front of us that kept us occupied. They were quite the show, but nothing like Taylor's.

Before every song she sang, she explained why she wrote it. Whether it was about that cute senior boy who didn't know she existed, the ability to say goodbye to a friend that did her no good, or that one guy who "Should've Said No" when he cheated on her. Her approach to music is simple, "If guys don't want me to write bad songs about them, then they shouldn't do bad things." - Taylor Swift.

She's one of those girls who doesn't let anything stop her. If someone says she can't do something, it makes her that much more determined to do it. She inspired me. With one turn of the head to the left, the whole left side of the arena screamed. Without saying one word she had 16,000 people in her control. She's fearless.

"But no matter what love throws at you, you have to believe in it. You have to believe in love stories and prince charmings and happily ever after. That’s why I write these songs because I think love is fearless."- Taylor Swift.

The Girl Code

The Girl Code. An established code, a womans law that "every girl should follow"? Yeah okay. The Girl Code comes in a form of rules. Number one being the most important, of course. What seems to be on the top of every list, is boyfriends. Guys, boys, men, whatever you want to call them, they all influence a girl at some point in her life. Whether it has a big impact or doesn't make a difference.

Once you hit the age where boys are your whole life... well some of us hit that age before we entered the doors of kindergarten, anyways, boys take over. They can change everything about you, and make you crazy. We get so paranoid when they don't text us back right away or liked another girl's status on Facebook. They mess with your mind, til you've completely lost it. Some may even find themselves following these boys home. Weird. Would you want someone being so obsessed that they FOLLOW YOU TO YOUR HOUSE?! Ha, didn't think so.

One way to stop yourself from complete craziness is your girls. The girls who know what makes you tic, and all your deepest darkest secrets. Trick is, if they spill any of that information to anyone they weren't assigned to, there shoved to the side and forgotten. Well, thats how the girl code is supposed to work. It clearly states that the penalty for exposing a secret to an unauthorized party shall be exile from Girlville. Um, whats Girlville? Can someone please point me in the direction of this place because it's never been a location on my map. But then again, I've never been good at reading maps. Its understandable to say that if a friend tells your personal information, you should be upset with them, but all these outlines of who you can and cannot date is a waste of time. Boys will be boys and the boy you fall for is out of your hands. What you choose to do with those feelings are totally up to you, but your friends should not make your decisions. Yes, your friends should have a say in who you date because they see him a different way than you do but remember that they are only there for support. You should still listen to what they have to say but don't feel like you have to do what they told you. If they are really following the girl code, they will never leave a girlfriend behind.

In All Seriousness...

We all do it. Its that switch in our brains we just can't seem to turn off. As soon as its triggered, it takes over our body. It just won't stop. Our faces are red and our eyes are watering. The time is still ticking but we can't even think. We all do it. Sometimes we even get punished for it. By now you probably want to know what I'm talking about. Well, it's simple. It's, like I said, something we all do. It's a laugh.

A laugh starts with a smirk. A smirk turns into a smile. A smile turns into an even bigger smile and eventually you can't control it. It takes a second for you to become unstoppable. One second that can change the way you feel.

Feelings all come from within, they come from the inner core of your body. Generally, all people think about are their feelings. They spend too much time deciding how they want to feel or how they should feel rather than letting their body naturally do the work. When I heard Judson Laipply speak in New Brunswick during the YRSA conference, my feelings were natural. I let go of every thought in my mind and let it take me where it wanted to go. He made me forget every other problem going on and focus on what was happening right there. He made me enjoy myself. He made me laugh.

Judson Laipply, I think, is one of the funniest speakers I have ever heard. He brought serious topics into funny situations. For example he said, you open up your cupboard door, grab what you need but then forget to shut it. You bend down and when you lift your head back up you smack it on the corner of the cupboard. You then start cussing and yelling but soon discover that it was your own fault. Your the one who forgot to shut the door, your the one who your really getting mad at. You then realize that you look like a dork by getting mad at yourself, and you laugh. Once you laugh, you forget why you were mad in the first place.

Some think that laughing takes you away from reality and takes you to another world where everything is peaceful. Actually, it takes you away from that other world and brings you into reality. The world is not a peaceful place, but a simple laugh can make it one. The first strike of a laugh and its like a chain reaction. You could have a room full of people, one could start laughing and within seconds the whole room would be in hysterics. Some people might be laughing at the joke, some might be laughing because they have to, and then there's some that laugh at other peoples laugh. You know, those really high pitched ones, the Santa Claus giggle, or the full on pig snorts?

You might call me crazy, the random laugh attacks, the sudden outburst of chuckles, cackles or snickers. But at the end of the day when you look in the mirror, instead of picking out your flaws, laugh at them. Laugh at the giant pimple on your forehead or your disproportionate ears. It makes finding yourself so much easier and it makes having fun natural instead of a job. "The most wasted of all days, is the one without laughter" - e.e cummings.

Sup Barbie?

Plastic. That cold, hard, shiny piece of plastic. If you heat it, it will melt. If you bend it, it will snap. If you are made of it, then you are Heidi Montag.

Heidi Montag, for those who don't know who she is, stars on the show The Hills. For those who are completely out of it and don't know what The Hills is, it is a "reality" TV show. When I say reality, what I really mean is a camera following the never-ending drama of young adults in Beverly Hills. Back to Heidi. Heidi Montag has been on the show for many years now. The whole world has been viewing her whole life from a tiny TV screen from the past boyfriends, to her ex-best friend Lauren Conrad who used to star on the show, to her current husband Spencer. Without getting all you non-hill fans confused, when Spencer came into the picture a couple years earlier, the lies, the cheats, and the scandals all came pouring out into Lauren's life. When Heidi was forced to choose between her hot man candy and her life long best friend, she went with candy.

That candy didn't taste too sweet as Spencer refused every idea of raising a family, meeting his sister's boyfriend, and his biggest struggle, apologizing when he was wrong. Just when we thought Heidi was the sane one, she made a choice that changed her life forever. Well, it wasn't one choice, it was 13 choices. In 2008 she had breast implants, a nose job, and a chin reduction. Even that seems a lot for the 23 year-old but, on November 20 2009, she completed 10 procedures in one day. These procedures included, a slight eye-brow lift, another nose job, she had her own fat injected into her cheeks, her ears pinned back, injections in her lips, her chin shaped down, breasts redone again, her back aligned so her back muscles would be more visible, and lastly, inner and outer lipo.

It shocks me to think that this is what the world has come to be. I can't say that I'm a old and wise woman because I'm not. I'm being dragged into all the gossip and media myself. I turn to celebrities for fashion advice, or how to get my hair silky smooth. The media is targeting us at such a young age, as young as when we played with Barbies. Barbies are not real people, they are plastic. Real plastic. Its insulting if someone tells you that you look like Barbie so why would you want that? People shouldn't feel the need to change themselves just because they want to look "pretty". To be pretty you don't have to change your face! Try things like, growing your hair long, or cutting it short. Change your make-up routine, buy some new clothes. It's not considered cool to be plastic. In fact, it's considered stupid. If I were a boy, I would not want to be kissing your fat injected lips.

Heidi admits that she is "beyond obsessed" with plastic surgery, but we all don't have to be like her. She thinks that she has to alter herself to validate herself as a woman, or she needs that to look perfect. That's not really the truth, is it? "Do not wish to be anything but who you are, and try to be that perfectly" - St.Francis De Sales.

Oh, Hey Bieber.

The phone rang, I wasn't in the mood to answer. I had just said goodbye to one of my best friends who was moving to the other side of the world. The phone kept ringing but I continued to stare at it, without making a move. My mom told me it was one of my friends. Relunctantly, I reached for the phone and pressed the talk button. I lifted it to my ear, "GO CHECK YOUR TWITTER". Once I didn't respond, she said "JUSTIN RESPONDED TO YOU!" I shook my head, "No, no he didn't don't lie. I'm really not in the mood." She laughed, "I am not lying, go check it right now!" I threw my body off of the chair and bolted across the kitchen where I slipped and fell on my face. Without time to recover, I took the stairs two at a time. My fingers refreshed the twitter home page when I saw it. "Justinbieber: feel better". Those two words became blurry figures as my eyes filled with tears. I sank to the floor, and my scream pierced my own ears. My mom, laughing, told me I was crazy but I couldn't stop. The tears just kept rolling down my face. My heart was beating so fast, yet I couldn't obtain any air in my lungs. I've never cried over a boy before, but this boy is special. This boy is Justin Bieber.

Micheal Jackson is... alive? With all the buzz and gossip about the new King Of Pop, you're thinking, "Where is Micheal?". Micheal Jackson, the man who nobody could understand but made history with his music. Justin, the 16 year old boy who became famous off of youtube and now has his fans in the palm of his hand. The ongoing rilvalries and debates between these two artists is all based on opinions.

The facts are simple, Micheal worked for years on his career to earn a deserving title. Justin was discovered on the streets of Stratford, and now he also earned the deserving title? I don't think so. Justin is not The King Of Pop. Justin never will be The King Of Pop. "It was, and will always be Micheal Jackson."- Brendan Kirby.

I am Justin's biggest fan, not Micheal's, but he still has a lot to learn about the celebrity life. He has melted the hearts of girls all over the world (including mine), become the youngest male solo artist to top the Billboard charts since Little Stevie Wonder in 1963, and, well...taken over the earth. So long MJ, hello JB.

I Stalk You.

I stalk your photos, I stalk your live feed, I stalk your wall posts, I stalk your wall to walls, I stalk your status updates, I stalk your profile pictures, I stalk your photo albums, I stalk your fan pages, I stalk your interests, I stalk your friends, I stalk their friends but most importantly... I stalk you. That's right, I stalk every one of you. Over 400 million people use Facebook to connect with family, friends, and some people you may not know. Parents and guardians warn their children of creepers and to never accept anyone that they do not know, but I have found a way to creep people without being their friend. Sounds scary huh? Well it is.

You might have thought that your profile is secured, but you thought wrong. Facebook changes their security settings often without notifying the millions of users. This causes people to leave their profiles unsecured and open for the creepy people to see. It's really a simple thing to make an account and add people you don't know. The only safe thing about it is that you have to accept someone as a friend before you can access their full profile. This is where most people believe as the limit.

You're messing around on the computer and see a name that you use to know, so you click on their name. It then comes up with their almost profile and you see a profile picture in the left corner. If you can't see the picture clearly or the picture is on of them, then you might get confused. You think, "well what am I going to do now? Should I add them anyway?" Tip: click on the profile picture, this way you can access all of their profile pictures. If you have some sort of eye problem or just are having problems still seeing them, this is not the end. Tip: there is a bar across the top of the picture that says "back to album", " (person's name) photos", and " (persons name) profile". Click on "photos" and this way you can view every single picture that anyone has ever posted about them. Its basically like you already have them as a friend, without creeping their wall-posts.

This method works on everyone who is not smart enough to change their security settings. Especially those girls who have those gorgeous boyfriends that you think might be a little weird if you add them. Is it really creeping if you don't get caught? After all, they'll never know... ;)

"Cassie, do you need to go back to kindergarten?" The only way to really find this out is to go on Are You Smarter Than A Kindergardener but, there is no such thing as this show. So, if I had to pick one game show to be on, I would choose to be on Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader.

Jeff Foxworthy, the host for AYSTAFG, meets millions of people who are smarter than a fifth grader. He also meets people who are not... The point of this show is that there is a contestant who has to answer questions that a fifth grade student would be asked in class. They keep answering questions until they answer one wrong. Once they answer one wrong, they lose and have to admit to the camera "I am not smarter than a fifth grader". If they answer all the questions right, they get to take home 1 million dollars.

But there's a catch. There are 8 fifth graders who sit at desks and also have to answer the questions. At any time, the contestant can ask for help on the question that has been asked to one of the students. If the student who was helping the contestant answers the question wrong, then the contestant also gets it wrong.

I think we all know that I am smarter than a fifth grader and could win that money in a sitch. So I guess the real questions is, are YOU smarter than a fifth grader? ;)

We're born. We live. We die. Everybody goes through the same thing. Some don't want to die, while others choose for themselves when to die. I don't want to die, but I know that I have to. If we all have to die, why not make it worth it? I'm writing a bucket list, for the top 10 things I want to accomplish before my life ends. These are the top 10 things that if I do them all, I will have lived a full life.
10. Stay in an ice hotel
9. Win an award
8. Dive into a giant bucket of food.
7. Meet Willy Wonka and tour his Chocolate Factory
6. Save someone's life
5. Put a flag on the moon.
4. Be A Speaker at We Day
3. Meet Justin Bieber
2. Get Married
1. Change mankind
"I have a dream" - Martin Luther King Jr. One great example of changing mankind. He spoke his mind and made a difference, a positive difference. Adolf Hitler spoke his mind, he also made a difference, a negative difference. I want to make a positive difference. Something that people will look back on and think, "Wow, where would we be if she didn't do that?" One problem, I don't know how to change mankind. It will have to be something that no one has done. Something courageous and brave and people will know who Cassie Busuttil is. It's still undecided but when I know what I want to do, I'll do it. I'm determined.

Whether they make a big difference in the world or if it's just for my enjoyment, they all mean something to me. This is my bucket list.

A dream.

5,500 athletes. 17 days. One shot. Alexandre Bilodeau, a 22 year old male made Canadian history on Sunday February 14, 2010. Just a regular boy with a regular dream who never thought he would ever make it this far. That dream all became reality when he kicked our former Vancouver native that now competes for Australia right out of first place. With a striking 0.17 more points than Dale Begg-Smith, Alexandre Bilodeau lived his dream.

The nail-biting crowd was silent as Alexandre made his way down the hill. After he landed the back double fold, Canada knew he was in it to win it. His knees were held tightly together and he crossed the finish line with a record of 23.17 seconds. He waited patiently while the judges tallied his score but when the numbers 26.75 ran across the screen, Canada was the only thing people could hear. His look of hope and fear was replaced with joy and happiness. He did it. He really did it.

"He helped me keep things in perspective all these years. Even when it's raining, I take it. I'll go train." What inspired Alex? His brother. Frederic Bilodeau who suffers from cerebral palsy cheered on his brother with the rest of the country with one hand gripped on the railing and the other raised high in the air. "He doesn't have that chance, and he's having a smile every morning when he wakes up".

Through all the pain and determination that this young man has conquered, it all became worth it for the one shot he was given. "I don't think I realize what's actually going on today and what's happening to me right now" Bilodeau stated, but we don't blame him. "I'm human so I make mistakes. If I can do it. They can all do it". - Alexandre Bilodeau.

This is the life.

I take a step out the back door of my cottage onto the sliver filled wooden deck and breathe in the sticky, humid air. I hear the waves crashing against the rocks and the sun is set high ready to bronze people's skin. The people. Oh the people are spread out over the gritty, beige sand. My toes sink into it, as my hair gets blown to the side. Sweat trickling down my face as the temperature reaches its high. The only thing running through my mind is, this is the life.

This is the life. My life. I spend my whole summer repeating this every morning. My days consist of tennis at 11:15 am, lunch and then chilling on the beach til dinner. I know what you're thinking, tennis every morning at 11:15? Well yes, there is a tennis club at my cottage and this is where I made my life-long friends. We all have known each other since we were as young as 2 years old. We grew up together every summer. Of course I'm not hanging out with my brother though. He hangs out with the kids his age. Pretty much all the people my brother hangs out with are older brothers and sisters that I hang out with. It's like a big family.

At night you can see the reflection of the setting sun spread across the calm water. The giant Canadian flag is held high and gently ripples in the evening's breeze. That sand that was once blistering hot turns to a cool arrangement beneath my feet. The lighthouse stands tall as if it knows why its there. My body relaxes and my mind sets free. This is my home. Southampton is my home.

Perfect is too perfect.

So, I looked at the blog topic for this week and it was "describe your perfect friend". I immediately thought of all my friends and thought about if any were perfect. No one really came to mind except Olivia because she's amazing at everything but I still couldn't call her the perfect friend. Don't take that in the wrong way because I still love her but wouldn't you get annoyed if your friend was perfect all the time? I admit it, Olivia's beauty, academic success and trendy clothes are all things I would kill to have but the reason I don't get annoyed with her is because she still has things that aren't perfect. I'm not going to name them because at the moment, I can't really think of any.

If I had to choose a perfect friend, it would be someone who is kind, generous and doesn't hurt you. At least not on purpose. Also, it would be someone who has appealing clothing so I could borrow them when I'm having one of those "there's nothing to wear" day. Maybe my perfect friend would be someone the total opposite of me.

I guess this all remains untold because there really isn't a machine that can make your perfect friend. I love my friends the way the are and we have buckets of fun together because we all bring different adventures with our smiles. None of them are perfect because frankly, perfect is too perfect.

If I could re-live one day. Just one day? I don't know where to start. Everyday is kind of like a new adventure, you know? I don't know if I would want to re-live a day because some things just happen. We look back on the memories of this day and think, "wow, that was so much fun". If we re-lived it, we might think "this is getting boring". But, there are some days that will never get old. For example, the day I was born. How could that get old? I wouldn't be writing this if that day never happened. The only thing that wasn't good about that day, is I don't remember it at all.

Another day that rocked was when I saw Justin Bieber live at We Day! Of course he was looking gorgeous, as always. He brought tears to my eyes. It also made me think about the people who live in developing countries. It intrigued me so much that I would like to visit Africa. This dream may come true as life moves on. If all this happened in one day it makes me believe that it was definitely a day worth remembering.

I guess everyday is worth remembering because so many different things happen each day. It still may be Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday but its a different day. Different days come with different adventures. And you can never re-live that. Remember the past, live in the present, and look forward to the future.

God Bless Haiti

30 seconds was all it took. Five seconds to second to see. Ten seconds to know. 14 seconds to run. One second to kill. It's more than just a natural disaster, it's chaos. We here in Canada regard this situation as "a horrible thing". Is that really what it is? 72,000 people have died, and counting. More are suffering through hunger, thirst, and the reality of the situation. Children have no parents, while parents have no children. They are all part of this tragedy, with no way out. They can't just get in their car and drive away. They can't escape the things that have happened. The only thing they can do is help. Pictures have been shown of the people working together as a community, lifting the rubble off of others. Taking the dead corpses and laying blankets over them. Oddly enough, some are even sharing the scraps of food that they have left with the people around them. They are all feeding off of eachother. Without people, we would be nothing.

Why? Seems like a pretty simple question right? However, the answers never are. Unlucky. Doomed. Unfortunate. How else can you describe it? We spend our whole lives building up, becoming a better person and making money -at least trying- so we can feed ourselves at the end of the day. If you think about it, we have more in common with Haiti than you think. They did the exact things that we did, but that all changed on January 12, 2010 at 4:09 pm. Everyone's hard work was shaken and torn until it was nothing. They spent decades trying to pull their country out of poverty, when all it took was 30 seconds to destroy it.

The technical form of an earthquake is when stress in the earth's outer layer causes a pushing effect against the sides of the fault. My form of an earthquake is indescribable. It's not like you can say "why would somebody do such a thing?". This time it's different. There is no one to blame.

We all know Canada is a very developed country because we have lots of resources and money to get resources. Between Canada and the U.S.A, we have raised over 58 million dollars for Haiti. Countries helping countries, countries working together, countries becoming one. It's all changing. But why did something like this have to happen to open our eyes? There's that word again, why? Like I said, the answers are never simple. But if we all just stop long enough to see that people need us, we can make a change for Haiti. We can be the role models that this world needs.

Nobody wanted this catastrophe to happen, but it did. So instead of wishing that it didn't, get out there and help. Don't stand there and watch, be the one that people are watching. God bless Haiti. "We can't plan life. All we can do is be available for it." - Lauryn Hill.

Da da da daaaaaaaaaa. When I hear this sound, I think of super heroes! (you might have to sing it out loud to get the full effect). People like Superman, Spiderman, Batman... they are all men. What about women? Catwoman, Wonderwoman... and now... BIEBERWOMAN! Oh yes, this JUSTIN (get it, Justin Bieber, this just in.) there is a new hero surfing the skies. She goes from cloud to cloud spreading the word of Bieber love and making the world a better place one belieber at a time. Yes I did say belieber.

A belieber is someone who strongly believes in Justin Bieber and always will. Someone who puts his songs on repeat, and never gets bored of them. Someone who will stand up for Justin when other boys make fun of him. C'mon boys, you know you're just jealous of his amazing looks, heavenly voice, and the ability to get girls wherever he goes.

I would be Bieberwoman because I want more people to appreciate Justin's music like I do. Bieberwoman is trying to make that possible. People need to realize for that every hater there is at least 5 lovers of Justin Bieber.

Who Would I Be?

I would be, Justin Bieber's best friend. I would be Justin's best friend because I could be there to support him when he's going on for a show, performing for really important people, and doing interviews. We could also hang out after and just have a good time like regular kids do.

Since I am a girl and he is a boy, we could evidently fall in love. We would first go to McDonald's because he loves McDonald's, I'd treat him to his favourite order, a Big Mac. We will be sharing a McFlurry when he looks into my eyes, and realizes that I'm the one for him. For our second date, we would go snowboarding/skiing. Even though were not the best, we will have a fun time on the bunny hills. After skiing/snowboarding, we will drink hot chocolate. For our third date, he will take me to London where he is performing and we will chill after his show, and watch movies where his arm will be around my shoulders and we will fit like 2 peas in a pod. For our fourth date, we will go on a family vacation. Even though were not family, my family and his family will go together which makes it a family vacation. One night, we will eat dinner on the beach like a picnic and watching the sunset he will take his guitar and sing "One Less Lonely Girl" to me. After, he will put down his guitar and kiss me. When I am 22 and he is 24, he will propose to me at his show in Paris, France. We will get married under the Eiffel Tower, and have 3 kids. Two girls, and one boy. Justin will sing our kids to sleep every night, and we will live a happy, wonderful life. He will even love me, when I'm old and wrinkly.

So, this is what I would be for a day which would then hopefully turn into many others!

Did You Know?

By 2013, a computer will be invented that's smarter than the human brain. By 2049, a computer will be invented that is smarter than the human species. India has more honour kids than America has kids and technology is doubling every year. What does it all mean? Does it mean that we're getting to wrapped up in the technology that has been made today? Does it mean that we are relying on google and other websites to answer our questions for us? And if a computer is smarter than the human brain, how will we be able to use it? Who will we ask for for help if its smarter than the human species?

As the world progresses in technology, people are getting smarter in the facts but dumber in the information. We don't really understand stuff anymore, we just put the words together and think we know it. If we rely on the computer for all our communication, how will that affect our social skills because things are way easier said through a screen then face to face. This could result in same major social issues for people. When we get interviewed for jobs, we will struggle because we won't be used to talking to people. Or maybe job applications and video interviews will be done online. Technology is positive in the way that if someone is on the other side of the world, there are was to keep in touch with them like skype, ichat, facebook, msn, email and more. But, the computer is not going to be as simple to work with if its smarter than our own brains. What happens if technology crashes? When Blackberry goes down for a day, people panic and don't know what to do. They don't think to pick up their home phone and call because it's not something they regularly do because of the dependance on email and texting. If this happens to the whole world at one time, it could be destructive.

I still don't know what all of this means but if phone's are already increasing our risk of cancer now, I can't imagine what's going to happen later. It might not be safe but will it be efficient? Maybe we can look it up on google. ;)
